Muhlenberg Girls Pull Away After Break Against Caldwell

An 11-3 run to start the second half put Muhlenberg County up 41-27, and the Lady Mustangs went on to knock off Caldwell County 70-47 Saturday afternoon in the Lady Mustangs Christmas Classic.

Caldwell County, now 2-3, hung tough early against one of the 3rd Region’s top-rated teams.

But turnovers took their toll on the Lady Tigers as Muhlenberg improved to 5-1 on the season.

Caldwell finished the game with 21 miscues.

Still, the Lady Tigers led 11-10 after one quarter. The game was tied 22-22 when Bella McConnell made one of two free throws with 1:39 left in the first half.

But a 3-pointer by senior Destin Armour helped Muhlenberg get to halftime with a 30-24 advantage.

Armour would not only finish with a game-high 27 points, but passed the 1,000-career-points mark in the first half of the contest.

The Lady Mustangs led 51-38 through three quarters and net allowed Caldwell to put together a run in the final frame.

Elisabeth Joines added 13 points for Muhlenberg while Sarah-Cate Boggess had 10 points and nine rebounds.

Jacey Jaggers scored 17 points to lead Caldwell. Jada Boyd added eight.

Armour and Jaggers were named the Players of the Game from their respective teams.

Caldwell next hosts Todd County Central as part of a girls and boys varsity doubleheader Tuesday night in Princeton.
