Trigg County is 3-0 in district play for the first time in 26 years after a 58-42 win over Lyon County Tuesday in a rematch of last year’s girls’ district championship game.

The Lady Wildcats led wire to wire in jumping out to a 20-9 lead after one quarter.  The first half was a sloppy affair as the teams combined for 33 turnovers and 22 fouls.  However, Trigg was the beneficiary of 22 first half turnovers by the Lyons in building a 28-18 lead at intermission.

A 15-2 run by Trigg early in the third quarter proved to be the difference.  Marleigh Reynolds scored eight of her game-high 17 points during the decisive run.  Trigg hit 9-of-19 shots from the field in the quarter and scored 10 points off six Lyon miscues.  The Lady Wildcat lead stayed between 16 and 23 points for the remainder of the game.

A season-long problem kept the Lady Wildcats from winning by a larger margin.  They hit just 11-of-36 (30-percent) at the free throw line.  For the season, they are a 42-percent shooting team at the line.

Free throws aside, the Lady Wildcats scored 29 points off 31 Lady Lyon turnovers and shot 38-percent from the field.

In addition to her 17 points, Reynolds pulled down seven rebounds for Trigg County.  Olivia Noffsinger added 15 points, seven steals, and six rebounds, and Ryle Bush had 10 points and six boards.

Calista Collins led Lyon County with 12 points, and 11 rebounds before fouling out midway through the fourth quarter.  Kenttavia Matthews contributed nine points and eight rebounds.

Trigg County is 3-0 in district play for the first time since the 1993-94 season.  The 16-point win is their largest over the border rival since a 48-29 win in 2003.

Lyon County (1-5, 1-2) will play three games this weekend in the Whitesville Trinity Christmas Classic.  They will play the host Lady Raiders (2-4) Thursday.

Trigg County (4-1, 3-0) will play in the Russellville Food Bank Classic Friday.  They open against Logan County (3-2), who dropped a 63-54 contest to Hopkinsville Tuesday.
