Holiday Woes Continue for Trigg in Consolation Loss to St. Mary

12-21-bridges-2

The Holiday woes continue for Trigg County continued Saturday as the Wildcats fell to St. Mary 61-52 in the consolation game of the KME Christmas Classic at Wildcat Gym.

The game was tied at two and four early, but St. Mary continually found holes in the Trigg defense to hit 11 of their first 13 shots from the field and build a 24-10 first quarter lead.

The Wildcats would get as close as 10 points in the second quarter, but a Jack Bell 3-pointer just before the halftime horn gave the Vikings a 35-22 lead.

St. Mary left the door open for the Wildcats to make a second half comeback, but Trigg refused their generosity.  The Wildcats hit 5-of-16 free throws in the second half and committed 12 of their 21 turnovers after halftime.

The closest Trigg County got in the second half was 57-52 with just over a minute left.

St. Mary (5-3) shot 48-percent from the field and hit 6-of-15 behind the arc.  Trigg County shot just 31-percent from the field and was 14-of-30 at the free throw line.  They did outrebound St. Mary 41-17.

Jhaden Vaughn scored 16 points, with Kendric Adams adding 10 points and 16 rebounds.  Khyran Vaughn grabbed 10 rebounds.

Collin Doss led St. Mary with 19 points as the Vikings won their fourth straight game against Trigg since 2008 – all in the KME Classic.

Trigg County (3-5) will play in the Martin Lions Club Classic Friday against the host Martin Westview.
