The Trigg County Lady Wildcats are off to their best start in 28 years after holding off Butler County 46-39 Sunday in the Russellville Food Bank Classic.  Trigg won two of three at the event and enter Christmas with a 6-2 record.

The Lady Wildcats struggled at the free throw line in the first two weeks of the season but shot well at the charity stripe for the second straight game to get the win.  Trigg hit 15-of-25 at the line, including a perfect 6-of-6 in the final minute to stave off a Butler County rally.

Trigg County used a 15-6 second quarter run to take a 23-17 lead at halftime with Adri Phillips scoring six of her team-high 16 points in the quarter.

Butler County ran off the first 10 points of the third quarter to take a 27-23 lead.  Trigg answered with an 8-2 run to end the frame and never relinquished the lead again.

Butler cut the lead to 40-39 with 47 seconds left, but Rylee Bush and Iyanna Grubbs combined to hit six straight free throws for the final margin.  Grubbs sealed the win with a steal with 16 seconds left.

Bush joined Phillips in double figures with 11 points.

Taylin Clark led Butler County (3-6) with 18 points.

Trigg County is 6-2 for the first time since 1991-92.  They will play Ballard Memorial Thursday in the first game of the Community Christian Lady Warrior Classic.
