Lady Colonels Drop Two at FNB Holiday Bash

The Christian County Lady Colonels got off to a slow start Friday and never quite found their gear as they dropped a pair of games in the FNB Holiday Bash at South Warren. The Lady Colonels fell 59-35 to Graves County in their first game of the day. Friday evening, Christian County fell to the host South Warren Lady Spartans 57-44.

In the opener against Graves County, the Lady Colonels were limited to just two field goals in the first quarter, as the Lady Eagles jumped out to a 16-4 lead. The Graves County defense was still in shutdown mode in the second quarter, as they held Christian County to seven points, as the lead grew to 32-11 at the half.

The Lady Colonels played pretty much even with the Lady Eagles in the second half, but the damage had already been done.

Christian County was led by Eniya McGee with 11 points. Lamontavia Forte and Leila Lee added five points each.

Graves County was led by Avery Myatt and Raychel Mathis with 15 points each.

In the second game of the day against South Warren, things got off to a much better start for the Lady Colonels. With Destinee Catlett-Watkins lighting it up for 10 points in the opening quarter, Christian County took a 14-10 lead. The Lady Colonels would continue to hold the lead at 28-25 at the break.

South Warren then took control of the game coming out to start the second half. With their defense going into lockdown mode, the Lady Spartans made their move. Behind the play of Carson Deaton, who scored 8 points in the third quarter, South Warren took a 41-32 lead.

The Lady Spartans then pulled on out to get the 13 point win.

Destinee Catlett-Watkins was the only Lady Colonel to reach double figures with 16 points. Reni Shemwell and Amari Brown finished with seven each.

South Warren was paced by Carson Deaton with 13, ten of those coming in the second half. Brooke Stevenson had 11 points, while Lexi Button added 10 for the Lady Spartans.

With the two losses, the Lady Colonels fall to 2-7 on the season.
