Lady Lyons Stay Hot, Blitz Christian Fellowship by 30

Maybe a little fun over Christmas break was all Lyon County’s Lady Lyons needed to get back on track.  Lyon used a strong second quarter to beat Christian Fellowship 69-39 Friday in the quarterfinals of the CCA Lady Warrior Classic in Paducah.  Lyon County will play tourney host Community Christian Friday at 8pm in the semifinals.

The Lady Lyons led 18-12 after one quarter but got five points from Gracen Wynn and four from Rose Smith in the second quarter to build a 36-23 lead at halftime.  Lulu Taylor hit a 3-pointer ahead of the horn for the 13-point advantage at intermission.

Cathryn Brown scored Lyon County’s first 14 points of the third quarter on a to give the Lady Lyons a 50-26 lead.  Brown finished with a team-high 18 points – 16 coming the second half.

Lyon County led 56-28 after three quarters and coasted to the 30-point win.

Calista Collins added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Lyons.  Smith had 10 points, and Kent’Tavia Matthews had seven points and eight steals.

Christian Fellowship (4-4) was led by Gracie Howard’s 13 points.  The meeting was the first between the schools in five years.

Lyon County entered the Christmas break with 1-5 record.  After a loss to the host school at the Whitesville Trinity Christmas tourney, the Lady Lyons have reeled off three straight wins to improve to 4-5 ahead of Friday night’s semifinal game with CCA.  It will be the first meeting between Lyon and CCA in seven years.
