Lady Blazers Split Final Two Games at CCA Tourney

University Heights wrapped up play at the CCA Lady Warrior Classic with a split of two games Saturday.  The Lady Blazers held off Pope County, Ill. 41-40 in their first game and faded late in a 41-33 loss to Carlisle County in the consolation final.

Lily Hendricks scored 12 of her 18 points in the first half as the Lady Blazers led 22-16 at halftime.

UHA had several chances to extend their lead in the second half but hit just 4-of-14 free throws in the contest.  Pope County didn’t help their situation by missing seven of nine free throw attempts.

Playing with seven players for the third straight day, the Lady Blazers were able to put three players in double figures.  In addition to Hendricks, Mallory Rager and Aniah Dailey each scored 10 points.

CARLISLE COUNTY 41  UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS 33

Playing their second game of the day, UHA simply ran out of gas down the stretch and fell to the Lady Comets 41-33 in the consolation final.

The game was tied at 18 at halftime, but Carlisle began the second half on an 8-2 run and outscored the Lady Blazers by five points in the final quarter.

Lily Hendricks scored 17 points for UHA and was named to the all-tourney team.  Breanna Daniel hit a trio of 3-pointers and finished with nine points.

UHA finished the tournament with a 2-2 record and is expected to have everyone back when they return to the court Friday at Union County.
