Lady Blazers Can’t Get Past McLean County

McLean County’s Kamryn McMahon knocked down 8 of 9 free throws in the 4th quarter as the Lady Cougars held of the UHA Lady Blazers 38-35 Saturday afternoon in a defensive struggle at Blazer Gym. The game marked the 6th time this season that the Lady Blazers have been held below forty points.

The Lady Blazers struggled to get things rolling coming out of the opening tip. UHA was held to just one field goal in the first quarter, as McLean County took a 13-6 lead.

In the second quarter, it was UHA’s turn to rachet up the defense. The Lady Blazers held the Lady Cougars to just two field goals, as UHA came back to take a 19-17 lead at half.

Neither team could get much going coming out of the locker room in the 3rd quarter. The Lady Blazers and the Lady Cougars both scored eight points, as the two teams headed into the final quarter with the Lady Blazers still holding a two point lead.

Cold shooting in the final quarter eventually took its toll. The Lady Blazers finished 3 of 9 from the field in the final quarter. McLean County did not shoot that well coming down the stretch, however, the Lady Cougars knocked down 11 of 16 at the line to pick up the win.

Lily Hendricks led the way for UHA with 12 points. Meghan Adams was the only other Lady Blazer to reach double figures with 11 points. Aniah Dailey added five for the Lady Blazers.

Hailee Johnson paced McLean County with 12 points.

The loss drops University Heights to 4-7 on the season.
