Colonel Wrestling Ranked Second Statewide

Christian County is ranked second in the latest Kentuckywrestling.com statewide rankings with six wrestlers ranked in the top five of their respective classes.

Jakerion Merritt, the defending state champion in the 132-pound class, is ranked No. 1 at 145. Union County’s Trevor Pogue is No. 2, and Conner’s Jacob Grandstaff, who finished third at 132 last year, is ranked No. 4 at 145 this year.

Niko Bussell is ranked No. 1 in the 220-pound class. He finished runner-up last year at state to Union County’s Mathias Ervin, who moved up this year to 285. Casey Rausch of Campbell County, who finished fourth in the division last year, is ranked third.

Other Christian County wrestlers ranked in the top 25 of their weight class are:

Gage Fowler is ranked No. 3 in the 120-pound class
Neal Aldridge is ranked No. 3 in the 160-pound class
Ethan Wells is ranked No. 4 in the 126-pound class
Cameron Coleman is ranked No. 4 in the 182-pound class
Jari Campbell is ranked No. 9 in the 106-pound class
Austin Grant-Hall is ranked No. 9 in the 138-pound class
Timmy Dunham is ranked No. 13 in the 152-pound class
J.T. Adams is ranked No. 20 in the 170-pound class
Mason Kellett is ranked No. 23 in the 132-pound class

As a team, Christian County is ranked second behind First Region rival Union County in both the team rankings and dual rankings. Defending state champion Union County five wrestlers ranked No. 1 in their respective classes.

By far, Region 1 is the toughest wrestling region in the state, well ahead of Region 6 in the statewide rankings.
