In a rematch of last season’s KCAA State Championship game, visiting Somerset Christian surged to an early lead and brushed aside Heritage Christian Academy 79-39 on Saturday.  The Cougars, who returned all but one starter off last season’s title team, played spoiler on the Warrior’s Homecoming, while also handing them a fourth-straight loss.

The top-ranked Cougars put the game away early, running out to a double-digit advantage and leading 20-8 after the first quarter.  Mason Cunnigan poured in 12 points, while Jon Moore and Tristan Moore combined for 15 to put Somerset in control.

The second quarter was more of the same, with HCA failing to score in double figures and the Cougars taking a 45-18 lead into the halftime break.

The Warriors rallied out of the locker room, with Trenton Hayes scoring 5 of HCA’s 17 third-quarter points.  However, Cunnigan, Moore and Moore combined for 22 to help the Cougars to a 67-35 advantage.

HCA struggled to find the range again in the fourth, with Carlos Robles accounting for all 4 of the Warriors’ points.

The Warriors will be on the road on Monday for a boy/girl doubleheader at South Haven.  HCA lost to the Patriots by 10 in Hopkinsville in early December.
