Wildcat Win Streak Ends With 2A Sectional Loss to Calloway

A third quarter lull proved to be costly for Trigg County in their 62-43 loss to Calloway County Saturday in the Class 2A Sectional championship in Murray.

The Wildcats were outscored 24-8 in the quarter as Calloway hit 8-of-12 shots, while Trigg missed 14-of-16 shots. Calloway turned a seven-point halftime lead into a 53-30 advantage after three quarters.

Trigg County started off strong, getting out to a 6-1 lead. Calloway found their footing and responded with a 14-2 run and never lost the lead again.

The Wildcats shot just 27-percent from the field and failed to covert on several transition opportunities that kept them from closing the scoring gap.

Jhaden Vaughn led Trigg County (7-8) with 15 points. Jakobe Bridges added 11 points.
Calloway County (12-6) shot 47-percent from the field and hit 5-of-13 from behind the arc. Chandler Steele scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Lakers.

Trigg’s last win over Calloway on the Lakers’ home floor came in 1980 — a span of five games. Calloway leads the all-time series 14-9.

Trigg County will travel to Evansville Christian Tuesday in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
