The Trigg County girls’ basketball team stopped a two-game losing run and sent hosts UHA to its sixth loss in a row with a 43-30 win at Blazer Gym on Tuesday night.  The Lady Wildcats claim their second win of the season over the Lady Blazers after a 9-point victory in Cadiz earlier this month.

The Lady Blazers took an early 6-2 lead after a bucket in the lane by Meghan Adams, but Trigg’s Adri Phillips answered with a 3-pointer and the Lady Wildcats closed the first quarter on an 8-0 run for a 10-6 lead.

Olivia Noffsinger knocked down a 3-pointer on either side of a long-range connection by her sister Emily to start the second quarter, and Trigg led 19-8 with 3:37 left in the half.  Inside of the last minute, Lily Hendricks came up with a steal and layup, followed by 1 of 2 free throws by both Mallory Rager and Adams, but Emily Noffsinger drilled her third 3 of the first half with just :08 left for a 24-12 Trigg advantage at the break.

In the third, Adams scored 4-straight to pull the Lady Blazers back to within 11, but Rylee Bush hit 1 of 2 free throws and a short jumper, before Marleigh Reynolds scored down low, for the Lady Wildcats’ biggest lead at 32-16.

The margin was 15 after a Phillips layup with 5:34 to play and the Lady Wildcats looked to burn some clock, but began to turn the ball over to give UHA some hope.  Amaryia Bass converted a layup off a steal and Hendricks followed with an and-1 to get the Lady Blazers within 10 with 1:56 left.  Samantha Herrmann hit 1 of 2 free throws to trim the margin to 9 with less than a minute to go, but UHA couldn’t get any closer.

The win was Trigg’s first on UHA’s home floor since 2005.

Trigg will return to the court on Thursday when it looks to move to 6-0 in 5th-District play against visiting Crittenden County.  UHA will be on the road on Saturday to play Daviess County.
