Shorthanded Caldwell County had Marshall County up against the ropes — at least for a few minutes.

The Lady Tigers overcame a 12-0 deficit to twice take the lead in the third quarter — at 29-27 and again at 31-29.

But the Lady Marshals (13-8) regrouped in a big way, using a 19-0 run to eventually pull away for a 61-38 triumph Monday on Senior Night in Draffenville.

Caldwell, now 9-9, struggled to gain much offensive footing in the first half, but trailed just 25-15 at the break despite Marshall’s game-opening run.

The highlight of the first half for the Lady Tigers came on a 3-pointer that pushed junior Jacey Jaggers over the 1,000 career points mark.

But Caldwell caught fire in the third quarter.

The Lady Tigers scored the first nine points of the period as part of a 14-2 run to start the second half.

A Majah Hollowell 3-pointer gave Caldwell its first lead at 29-27 with 4:47 left in the stanza.

An 18-footer by Lucy Goffinet had Caldwell up 31-29 at the 3:53 mark.

A quick 10-1 burst put Marshall back in front.

Another Jaggers 3 had the Lady Tigers within 39-35 with 1:17 left in the third quarter.

But Marshall scored the next 19 points of the night to seize control of the contest.

A 3-pointer by Presley McKinney midway through the fourth period was all of Caldwell’s scoring in the final stanza as the Lady Marshals pushed the final margin to 23 points.

Halle Langhi paced Marshall with 19 points. Cayson Conner added 13 and Jada Driver had 12.

Hollowell scored 11 of her 13 points in the third quarter to lead Caldwell. Bella McConnell added 10 points.

The Lady Tigers were without senior point guard Jada Boyd, who is out for the season with a knee injury.

Reserves A.J. Hollowell and Parris Gray also missed the contest with injuries.

Caldwell’s girls return home on Tuesday to host Dawson Springs. Varsity action will be played first, beginning at 6 p.m.
