Lyon County took control of their Tuesday game against Trigg County with a 16-3 run and took control of the district race with an 81-64 win in Eddyville.

The win pushes the Lyons to 5-1 in the district and earns them the No. 1 seed in next month’s district tournament on their home floor.

Both teams struggled to find their footing in the early minutes, with the Lyons owning a 9-6 lead with 1:55 left in the frame.  Trigg then managed just one field goal over the next 4:15 that allowed the Lyons to build a 25-9 lead.

Travis Perry scored eight points during the run that eventually turned into a 39-17 lead before halftime.

Like they had in their past few games, Trigg County mounted a second half run.  The Wildcats used a 9-3 run to pull to within 52-42 late in the third quarter.  Jordan Miles scored 12 points in the quarter to help facilitate the Wildcat offensive push.

Trigg would get as close as 12 points in the fourth quarter, but the Lyons had the answer at every turn.

Lyon County grabbed 60-percent of their missed shots in the game and outrebounded Trigg 47-23.  Lyon had 19 second chance points.

Travis Perry scored 36 points and pulled down six rebounds.  Jackson Shoulders, who was held to five points in Lyon County’s December win at Trigg, had 19 points and 18 rebounds.  Nick Whalin added 16 points.

Miles led Trigg County with 20 points, and Jhaden Vaughn added 13 points.  Perry, Miles, and Vaughn – all eighth graders – combined for 69 points in the game.

Trigg County (10-13) will be the No. 2 seed in the district tournament, and Crittenden County will be the No. 3 seed.  Lyon will play No. 4 seed Livingston Central in the first round.

Lyon County now takes an 84-83 lead in the all-time series between the border schools.

Lyon County (13-8) hosts Caldwell County Thursday, while Trigg County will host Hopkinsville Monday.
