With a short turnaround after a tough 1-point loss to Caldwell County on Thursday night, the Lyon County girls’ basketball team found points hard to come by Friday night in a 59-31 setback to visiting Union County.  The Lady Lyons scored in single digits in all but one quarter against a suffocating Bravettes’ defense, dropping their third-straight and fourth in five outings.

Union County jumped out to an early lead, forcing a Lyon County timeout after a 3-pointer by the Bravettes’ Madison Morris with a 14-6 advantage.  Emily Hibbs finished a 7-point first quarter with an and-1 with just under a minute to go and Union County led 19-8 after one.

Neither team lit up the scoreboard in the second, but Union County outscored the Lady Lyons 8-4 to take a 27-12 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

Lyon’s Cathryn Brown opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer, but the Bravettes responded with an 8-0 run before Brown converted a layup for a 35-17 score.  Rose Smith’s short jumper with 1:55 left in the quarter would be the last Lyon County bucket, and Union lead 42-20 with a quarter to play.

Brown scored 6 in the fourth, but the Lady Lyons never threatened and were outscored 17-11 for the final 28-point margin.
