Without Perry, Lyons Fall to Lakers 64-50

Taking away the No. 3 scorer in the state would be a big blow to any team.

With eighth grader Travis Perry sitting out Lyon County’s game Saturday night to rest a foot injury, the Lyons struggled to generate their usual level of offense and dropped a 64-50 decision to Calloway County at Jason White Gymnasium in Eddyville.

Despite missing Perry’s 25.6 points a game, Lyon (14-9) still tried to make a game of it against their 1st Region opponent.

Down 29-23 at halftime, Lyon got as close as four points three times in the third period.

A Jackson Shoulders 3-pointer had the Lyons within 38-34 midway through the period.

However, 3s by Cade Butler and Evan Garrison helped Calloway finish the stanza strong. The Lakers carried a 48-39 advantage to the fourth quarter.

Calloway slowly stretched out the margin in the final frame. The Lakers led by as much as 18 points at 64-46.

Shoulders led the Lyons with 20 points while Nick Whalin had 16. But no one else had more than three points for Lyon.

The Lakers (14-9) had four players score in double figures. Ki Franklin and Chandler Steele each netted 14 points while Butler finsihed with 13 and Kade Mize had 12.

Lyon had a four-game winning streak snapped with the loss.

The Lyons face a big test on Tuesday when they visit Webster County (19-3).
