Hoptown Flips Second Half Script in Win at Trigg

Hopkinsville turned up their defense pressure and capitalized on second half Trigg County turnovers to post a 69-53 win over the Wildcats Monday in Cadiz.

Trigg County scored the first four points of the second half, and that’s when Hoptown’s defense took over.  The Tigers used a 23-1 run to take control of the game, scoring 12 points off six Trigg turnovers during the stretch.

For the game, Hoptown converted 25 Wildcat turnovers into 29 Tiger points.  They also limited Trigg to 4-of-19 shooting in the second half.

The first half was close, featuring seven ties and 10 lead changes before the teams went into halftime tied at 31.

Javon Smith-Rudd led Hopkinsville with 19 points and six rebounds.  Reece Jessie came off the bench to score 15 points before fouling out late in the game.  Don Victor also fouled out but not before sinking 14 points.  Arthur McKnight contributed six points, six assists, and five steals.

Hopkinsville shot 48-percent from the field and 63-percent at the free throw line.

Trigg County placed four players in double figures.  Jordan Miles scored 13 points, and Kendric Adams added 12 points.  Khyran Vaughn scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, helping Trigg own a 31-18 advantage on the glass.

Hopkinsville (10-14) has now 13 straight games against Trigg County dating back to 2006 and leads the all-time series 62-24.  The Tigers will play at Warren Central Wednesday.

Trigg County (10-14) saw their Tuesday game with St. Mary canceled.  They will travel to Hancock County Friday.
