The Christian County Lady Colonels Tuesday night made it back to back wins over the UHA Lady Blazers on back to back Tuesday nights. The Lady Colonels used their pressure defense to force the Lady Blazers into turnover issues as Christian County rolled to the 51-26 win at Colonel Gym. With the Lady Colonels having only one district game left, that against Fort Campbell, the win means that a coin toss will likely be used to decide the top seed for the 8th District tournament, which gets underway in just under three weeks.

The Lady Colonels took control of the game early in the contest. Christian County scored the first five points of the game to go up 5-0. The Lady Colonels then closed out the opening quarter on a 14-0 run to take a 19-2 lead after the opening eight minutes. Christian County’s defense held the Lady Blazers without a field goal in the opening quarter. Meanwhile, the Lady Colonels were able to knock down four shots from behind the 3-point line.

UHA looked like it might be ready to make a run to get back in the game at the start of the 2nd quarter. The Lady Blazers scored six quick points to cit the lead to 19-8. The Lady Colonels then delivered the knockout blow with a 9-0 run to push the lead out to 28-8. The half would come to an end with the Lady Colonels up 31-12.

Turnovers were a big factor in the first half, as Christian County forced the Lady Blazers into 23 miscues in the opening half. The Lady Colonels had some issues of their own with 10 turnovers in the half.

Christian County again put the defensive clamps on the Lady Blazers to open the second half of play, holding UHA without a field goal until the 1:36 mark of the quarter. By that point, the Christian County lead had grown to 39-17. The Lady Colonels added the final five points of the quarter to lead 44-17 heading into the final 8 minutes.

The two teams then played pretty much even over the final quarter as Christian County settled in for the 25 point win.

Amari Brown led the way for the Christian County Lady Colonels, finishing with 13 points. Destinee Catlett-Watkins was the other Lady Colonel to reach double figures with 11. Lydashe Bell ended the night with 9 points. Leila Lee added seven points for Christian County.

Meghan Adams and Aniah Dailey led all scorers for UHA with 7 points each. Lily Hendricks finished the game with 5 points.

Turnovers were a problem for both teams in the game. UHA finished with 36 turnovers, while Christian County had 21 of their own.

The win moves Christian County to 8-13 overall and 4-1 in 8th District play. UHA falls to 5-15 and 1-4.
