Dawson Springs Completes Season Sweep of Trigg County

2-12-pace

Dawson Springs ended the first half on a 10-0 surge as part of a larger 22-2 run that propelled them to a 68-57 win over Trigg County Tuesday at the Panther Pit.  It’s the first time Dawson Springs has won consecutive games over Trigg County since 1998-99.

Trigg County feasted early off the Dawson Springs defense that came into the night giving up 68 points per game.  However, the Panthers switched to a zone defense that caused the Trigg offense to bog down at times.

Jhaden Vaughn scored the final six points of the first quarter for Trigg as they built a 15-12 lead.  Trigg upped it to 25-20 on a Vaughn 3-pointer and then didn’t score for the final 4:22 of the first half.

In the third quarter, Dawson Springs hitched their wagon to Braxton Cotton, and the senior put together one of his best quarters of the year.  Cotton scored the first eight points of the quarter as the Panthers pulled their lead out to 42-27.  He had 11 points, five rebounds, and three blocks in the third quarter alone.

Down by 15 points entering the fourth quarter, Tyler Ahart hit a pair of threes to start the fourth quarter that helped start a 14-4 run that got the Wildcats back to within 56-51 with 4:02 left.  Cotton and Landon Pace combined to score the final 12 points of the game for the Panthers as they didn’t allow Trigg to get any closer.

Cotton finished with 25 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocks for the Panthers.  Pace added 15 points and nine rebounds, and Dylan Dawson chipped in with 11 points and 18 rebounds.

Skylar Clark scored 16 points and passed the 1,000-point mark for his career.  Cotton topped the 1,000-point mark last month, also against Trigg County.

Jhaden Vaughn had 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Wildcats.  Ahart and Jordan Miles both scored 12 points.

Trigg County has dropped four straight and seven of their last eight games and will look to end their skid Friday at Caldwell County.

Dawson Springs has won three straight and will play at Caldwell County Thursday.
