“Big 3” Lead the Way in YSE Girls’ Super 7

As we head towards tournament time, the girls’ 2nd Region appears to be the “Big 3” with everyone else trying to chase them down. Henderson, Madisonville, and Webster County, now that the Lady Trojans are getting healthy, look to be strong contenders to make the trip to Rupp. The regional draw could put two of them in a first round matchup against each other. Can a darkhorse team sneak in and crash the party? That will be determined in the next couple of weeks.

1 – Henderson County (15-6) – The northen Lady Colonels have not played since February 4. They jump right back into the fire tonight with a home game against Webster County. A win would mean top seed in the 6th District tournament and an automatic trip into the 2nd Region tournament.

2 – Madisonville (22-1) – The Lady Maroons have now won five in a row since their loss to Henderson County, their only loss of the season. Madisonville appears to be in position to run the table for the remainder of the regular season, leaving them a prohibitive favorite in the 7th District.

3 – Webster County (11-9) – The Lady Trojans have won 7 of their last 8, and have a chance tonight to avenge the one loss in that stretch as they travel to Henderson County. They also have a big test coming up against Marshall County. This is a dangerous team to face over the next couple of weeks.

4 – Hopkinsville (13-13) – As we head into the final days of the season, the Lady Tigers seem to be the strongest of the pack chasing the big three at the top of the region. A coin toss between Hopkinsville and Christian County will determine the top seed for the 8th District tourney, but it appears another game with the Lady Colonels is likely in the 8th District title game.

5 – Christian County (10-14) – The southern Lady Colonels appear to be right there with Hopkinsville at the top of the 2nd tier in the 2nd Region. The injury to Trinity McGee hurts going into the postseason, so this team will be looking for some players to step up coming down to tourney time.

6 – Trigg County (20-7) – The Lady Wildcats have dropped games to both Christian County and Hopkinsville over the past four games. Both of those teams like to press and clamp down with tight defense. Handling pressure will be key for this team as we move towards the postseason.

7 – Crittenden County (15-7) – The Lady Rockets have won 5 of their last 6, losing their last time out to Caldwell County in overtime. Still, this is a team that could win the 5th District tournament, as evidenced by their road win at Trigg County.
