Stevens Wrestling for History at State Tourney

2-13-stevens

Trigg County will take a pair of wrestlers to the state tournament with one seeking to make history in his final weekend on the match.

Senior Colin Stevens finished second in the region in the 170-pound class to Union County’s Stephen Little and is ranked second behind Little in the statewide rankings.  Little has won two of the three matches between the two this season.

Stevens (39-2) finished second at state in the 182-pound class last year, while Little was second at 160.  Stevens will open Friday against Fern Creek’s Abdul Adahamov.  If the draw plays out, Stevens wouldn’t see an opponent ranked in the top 10 until the semifinal round.

Stevens is looking to become the first Trigg County wrestler to finish third or better at state three times.  Only his father and coach Ralph has won an individual state title.

Meanwhile, freshman Andrew Hendricks (17-2) will be making his state tournament debut.  He finished fourth at region at 220 and will open with fourth-ranked Casey Rauch of Campbell County.

The first round of the state tournament begins Friday at Alltech Arena in Lexington and continues Saturday.
