Russellville Rally Dashes Lady Rebel Hopes

For three quarters Friday night, the Todd County Central Lady Rebels gave the Russellville Lady Panthers all they wanted. Then, the Russellville defense limited the Lady Rebels to just one field goal in the final quarter, as the Lady Panthers pulled out to a 50-35 13th District win on their home court.

Thanks to the play of Lucy Chester, the Lady Rebels hung right with the Lady Panthers in the early going. Russellville ended the opening quarter with an 11-9 lead. Chester scored seven points in the quarter for the Lady Rebels.

Chester and Jordan Weathers combined to score all of Todd County Central’s points in the second quarter, as the Lady Rebels played right with the Lady Panthers. When the quarter ended, Todd County Central and Russellville were tied at 20-20.

After not scoring in the first half, Russellville’s Anastasia Dowlen began to assert herself in the third quarter. Dowlen came up with 11 points in the quarter as the Lady Panthers moved out to a 40-33 lead. Lucy Chester helped keep the Lady Rebels within shouting distance with another solid quarter.

Russellville then put the defensive clamps on during the 4th quarter, and they put them on tight. The Lady Panthers shut out Lucy Chester in the final quarter, and then held the rest of her teammates to a single field goal, as Russellville pulled away to the 15 point win.

Lucy Chester ended the night with 17 points for Todd Central. Jordan Weathers and Jayla Leavell added six points apiece.

Chloe Whitescarver led the Lady Panthers with 14 points. Anastasia Dowlen finished with 13 points, all of them coming in the second half. Amiyah Collier also reached double figures with 11 points.

Todd County Central drops to 2-20 with the loss, while Russellville improves to 17-9.
