Less than 24 hours after scoring 29 points in a victory over Muhlenberg County, Hopkinsville’s Don Victor poured in 24 in the first half on Saturday to help the Tigers to a 34-point rout of visiting Union County.  The win is the third in four tries for the Tigers ahead of a stiff test at Bowling Green (22-5) on Tuesday.

The Tigers roared out of the gate and led 13-4 after a putback by Victor with 4:27 left in the first.  Ethan Corbett knocked down two 3-pointers for Union, with the second pulling the Braves to within 6 at 19-13.  Victor dunked off an assist from Alijah Watts, followed by two free throws from KC Cabiness, and the Tigers led by 7 after one.

After putting up 14 in the opening quarter, Victor followed with 10 in the second, with his 3 from the corner putting Hoptown up 15 with 3:22 to play in the half.  Union’s Kaleb Kanipe converted a 3-point play with just over a minute left to trim the margin to 11, but Victor closed the half with a bucket in the lane for a 44-31 halftime advantage.

Hopkinsville kept the pedal down after the break, with Watts scoring all 6 of his third-quarter points in succession to give the Tigers a 20-point cushion with three minutes played.  They would lead by as many as 24, before taking a 71-45 lead to the fourth quarter.

Watts closed the game with 8 points over the final eight minutes, while Jamarcus Burks came off the bench to score 10 for the Tigers.  The final 34-point margin was Hoptown’s largest of the game.
