Hopkins Central Holds Off Late Rebel Rally for 10-Point Win

2-17-eaves

In a battle of teams working to flip the script on the start of their season, Hopkins County Central held off Todd County Central 66-56 Monday at Mortons Gap.

After losing their first 13 games to start the season, the Storm have won eight of 13 and avenged a 19-point loss to the Rebels in the season opener.  Todd County had won two of three games coming into Monday’s matchup.

The Storm broke open a close game early to take a 30-19 lead.  Todd countered with two buckets to end the half and pull to within 30-23.

Todd got to within 41-38 midway through the third frame.  They further whittled the Storm lead to 51-49 on a 3-point play by Amari Andrews with 4:16 left.  The Rebels had two chances to tie or take the lead but missed a shot and turned the ball over on their next two possessions.

With the Storm holding on to a 53-49 lead with 2:42 left, the Rebels were called for a technical foul for extracurricular activity after the whistle.  The Storm scored the next three points, and the Rebels didn’t get any closer.  John Miller scored buckets on three straight possessions to seal the win.

Miller finished with a game-high 19 points.  He was one of four Storm players to score in double figures.

Dominque Morrow led the Rebels with 18 points, and Preston Moore added 12 points.

Todd County will host Muhlenberg County Tuesday, while Hopkins County Central will travel to Crittenden County.
