For the first four minutes of the game Monday night, UHA Lady Blazer fans held out the faintest of hopes that their team might have a shot to pull off one of the biggest upsets in the state. The Lady Blazers had held Madisonville without a basket, and the Lady Maroons had scored only one points. However, the rest of the half did not play out the same way.

The Lady Maroons exploded for 39 points over the next 12 minutes as they ran out and away from the Lady Blazers 61-30 in Maroon Gym.

UHA had Madisonville completely out of sync in the early going, with the Lady Maroons struggling to find their outside shooting, and missing opportunities in close to the basket. The problem for the Lady Blazers was they could only muster two points of their own in the opening four minutes.

With Madisonville up 8-6 late in the opening quarter, the Lady Maroons ran off a quick 6-0 spurt that extended the lead to 14-6 at quarter’s end. Madisonville opened the 2nd quarter with the first five points to extend the run to 11-0 and take a 19-6 lead. UHA was able to trim the lead to 21-11 in the middle of the 2nd quarter.

Then the Lady Maroons’ Courtney Peyton and Camryn LaGrange took things over. The pair combined to score 15 points over the rest of the quarter as Madisonville effectively put the game away. The Lady Maroons ripped off 12 in a row to push the lead out to 33-11. By the time the half ended the Madisonville lead was out to 40-15. Courtney Peyton and Camryn LaGrange combined to score 28 of the Lady Maroons’ first half points.

Courtney Peyton continued to cause the Lady Blazers problems in the third quarter. With Peyton leading the way, Madisonville extended the lead to 55-18 by the end of the quarter, and activating the running clock. The Lady Maroons defense limited UHA to a Clarissa Miller 3-point shot in the quarter.

Madisonville attempted to get their reserves some court time in the final quarter, however the UHA Lady Blazers had a little sway on that. With the Lady Maroon subs on the court, the Lady Blazers opened the final quarter on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 55-27. Madisonville coach Jeff Duvall was upset enough with the play of his reserves, he brought his starters back into the contest with 4:45 to go in the game. The Madisonville starters then outscored UHA 6-3 to finish out the game and pick up the 31 point win.

Lily Hendricks led the way for the Lady Blazers, finishing with 13 points. Clarissa Miller added 5 points. Meghan Adams ended the night with 4 points.

A big night for Madisonville’s Courtney Peyton, as the Lady Maroon senior had 29 points. Camryn LaGrange finished with 15 points. Lindsey Peyton also reached double figures in the contest with 10 points for the Lady Maroons.

UHA drops to 6-19 on the season with the loss. Madisonville, with their 7th win in a row, moves to 24-1.
