Lady Wildcats Tie Program Record With 21st Win

2-18-olivia

Trigg County tied a program record for wins in a season in holding off Dawson Springs 58-53 Tuesday at Wildcat Gym.  Their 21st win of the season ties the mark set by the 1989-90 Lady Wildcat team.  The current squad can establish a new mark with at least two games left in the season.

The game was a back-and-forth affair for the first 11 minutes with neither team leading by more than six points.  Trigg used an 8-0 run to build a 23-14 lead with 4:14 left in the half.  Olivia Noffsinger and Marleigh Reynolds scored 11 of Trigg’s 14 points in the second quarter.  However, Gracie Harper came off the bench to score nine points in the first half and helped bring the Lady Panthers to within 25-24 at halftime.

Trigg again jumped out to a six-point lead midway through the third quarter, but Brooklyn Clark turned up her game in the quarter.  The Dawson Springs freshman scored 10 points in the frame to help her team take a 37-34 lead.  Trigg countered with the final eight points of the quarter for a 42-37 lead.

Dawson Springs never led in the fourth quarter, but they did trim a nine-point deficit to 54-53 with 1:10 left.  They were helped by 6-of-11 free throw shooting by the Lady Wildcats in the fourth quarter and 9-of-20 for the game.  They did hit 4-of-6 in the final minute, however, to seal the win.

Olivia Noffsinger led Trigg County with 21 points and eight rebounds.  She also added four steals.  Bush scored 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.  Trigg County was playing without Adri Phillips (9.2 ppg.) who suffered an ankle injury Friday’s loss at Caldwell County.  She is expected back this week.

Clark led Dawson Springs (11-17) with 17 points and 11 rebounds.  Harper added 14 off the bench.

Dawson Springs will host University Heights Thursday, while Trigg County (21-8) will host Fort Campbell Thursday.
