For a half Tuesday night, it looked as if the Christian County Lady Colonels might pull off a big upset on the road. The Lady Colonels were up six points on Webster County on the Lady Trojans home court, and had played a strong first half. But last season’s regional runner-up still had something left in the tank. The Lady Trojans rallied with a big second half and pulled out a 69-53 win.

Christian County opened the game with one of their best quarters of the season. Six different Lady Colonels scored in the first eight minutes as Christian County’s offense was clicking early. The Lady Colonels ended the opening quarter holding a 24-13 lead.

A big part of the defensive effort early was how Christian County contained Marissa Austin. The Lady Colonels held Austin scoreless in the first quarter.

Webster County then started to battle their way back into the game in the second quarter. After being held without a point in the first quarter, Marissa Austin started to light it up in the second. Austin scored 11 in the second quarter, as the Lady Trojans trimmed the lead to 35-29 at the half.

The Lady Trojans defense then seized control of the contest in the third quarter. Webster County limited Christian County to just five points in the quarter as the Lady Trojans charged hard into the lead. Adeline McDyer hit for seven points in the quarter as Webster County moved out to a 47-40 lead.

Once the Lady Trojans got to the lead, they were able to close things out. Marissa Austin scored 14 more in the final quarter, including hitting 8 of 10 at the line, as the Lady Trojans pulled away for the 16 point win.

Destinee Catlett-Watkins paced Christian County with 12 points. Lydashe Bell and Reni Shemwell also were in double figures with 10 points each. Webster County did a solid defensive effort against Eniya McGee, limiting her to six points on the night.

A big night for Marissa Austin, who led all scorers in the game with 27 points. Adeline McDyer added 12 points for the Lady Trojans.

The loss finished the regular season for Christian County at 11-16. The Lady Colonels begin tournament play Monday night when they take on University Heights in an 8th District semifinal.
