Henderson County Holds Off Furious Hoptown Rally

2-19-miller

Henderson County held off a furious rally to beat Hopkinsville 59-57 Tuesday and snap a four-game losing streak against the Tigers.

The Colonels jumped out to a 21-8 lead after the first quarter thanks to converting seven Hopkinsville turnovers into 13 points.

Hoptown found their footing in the second quarter and used an 11-4 run of their own to pull to within 25-21.  Henderson maintained a 36-30 lead at halftime.

The Tigers continually chipped away at the Colonel lead and forged a 45-all tie heading into the fourth quarter.  The game stayed close into the final 90 seconds where the Colonels hit three of five free throws to keep a two-point lead.  Hoptown got a good look to tie the game in the closing seconds but missed for the final two-point margin.

Reece Jesse led Hopkinsville (13-16) with 16 points, while Alijah Watts added 15 points, and Don Victor scored 10.  Henderson County (19-10) got 21 points from Daymian Dixon – 12 of those came in the second half.

The matchup was the first regular season game between the schools in three years.  Hopkinsville closes out the regular season Friday at Tiger Gym against Paducah Tilghman.
