Hoptown Gives Solid Effort at State Swim Meet

While they did not advance anyone on through to Saturday night’s finals, the Hopkinsville High School swim team did see improvements in half of their swimming times from what they registered at the regional swim meet. The Tigers were swimming the the Boys State Swim meet at the Lancaster Aquatic Center at the University of Kentucky.

The day began for the Tigers with Chase Atkins swimming in the Boys 200 Yard Freestye. Atkins finished the race with a time of 1:51.12. The time was .35-seconds better than his seed time coming into the meet. The performance was good enough to place him 31st in the event.

Up next for the Tigers was Bryce Robinson swimming in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Robinson’s time for the race was 23.20. The time was .03-seconds faster than his seed time for the event. With that time, Robinson finished 33rd in the 50 Yard Freestyle.

After that it was back to the pool for Chase Atkins for the longest race of the meet, the 500 Yard Freestyle. Atkins finished the marathon race with a time of 5:04.68. That time was nearly 4-seconds slower than his seeded time for the race.

The first relay event for the Tigers, the 200 Yard Freestyle, was up next. The team of Bryce Robinson, Chase Atkins, Zachary Gugle, and Bryce Hanson finished the race with a time of 1:36.14. The time was .62-seconds faster than their time coming into state. With the peformane, the Tigers would finish 23rd in the state.

Bryce Robinson then returned to the pool for the Boys 100 Yard Breaststroke. Robinson finished the race in a time of 1:04.64. The time was just .23-seconds slower than his seeded time coming into the event. The time would be good enough to place Robinson 34th in the event.

The day, and the morning preliminaries, wrapped up with the Tiger relay team swimming in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. After a tough first 100 yards, the Tigers finished with a strong kick. Their final time was 3:34.60, which was just .24-seconds slower than their seed time. However, the Tigers swam the last 200 yards in just 1:40.48. Their time placed them 21st in the state.
