Fifth-ranked Madisonville-North Hopkins scored the first 23 points of the night and went on to dispatch Dawson Springs 63-33 in the opening game of the girls’ 7th District tournament Monday night at Maroon Gym.

The Lady Panthers did not get on the scorebard until Gracie Harper drilled a 3-pointer 26 seconds into the second quarter.

Dawson (12-19) seemed to settle down some after that, but the Lady Maroons already had firm control of the contest.

By halftime, Madisonville (26-1) owned a 52-16 advantage.

With the KHSAA mercy rule in effect, the second half whizzed by with a continuously-running clock. The Lady Panthers actually outscored Madisonville 17-11 over the final two periods.

But the Lady Maroons move on to Thursday’s 7:00 championship game in Madisonville and have earned a spot in the 2nd Region tournament next week at Christian County.

Camryn LaGrange scored 13 of her game-high 16 points in the first half to lead Madisonville, which has won nine straight games. Lindsey Peyton added 14 points while Courtney Peyton had 13.

Harper led Dawson with 12 points. Brooklyn Clark added nine and Denisha Randolph had eight.
