PREVIEW – Madisonville vs Crittenden County (Girls 2nd Region Tournament)

The Girls’ 2nd Region tournament will tipoff Monday night with a David vs Goliath type matchup. The Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons, champions from the 7th District, will take on the Crittenden County Lady Rockets, the runners-up from the 5th District.

The Lady Maroons enter the tournament on a 10 game winning streak with a record of 27-1. The Lady Maroons only loss came on the road to Henderson County, January 18, by a score of 66-52.

Madisonville is led by their All-Region trio of Camryn LaGrange, Courtney Peyton, and her twin sister Lindsey Peyton. Courtney Peyton leads the team in scoring at 18.7 points per game. Camryn LaGrange also averages double-figures at 16.1. Lindsey Peyton is just below double figures level scoring at 9.5 points per game.

Lindsey Peyton leads the team in rebounding at 6.7 boards a game. Camryn LaGrange averages 6.4 rebounds per contest.

Madisonville is shooting 42.6-percent from the field, and 31.4-percent from behind the arc. The Lady Maroons are hitting 64.8-percent of their shots at the free throw line. They average 32.5 rebounds per contest.

Crittenden County enters the game with a record of 18-10. The Lady Rockets are coming off an 8-point loss to Trigg County in the 5th District championship game.

Crittenden County is led by freshman Taylor Guess, who is scoring 18.0-points per game, and is the only Lady Rocket averaging in double figures. Nahla Woodward is next at 9.3-points per game for the season. Jaelyn Duncan and Natalie Boone are both averaging just over 7-points per contest.

Woodward is the team’s leading rebounder at 8.1-boards per game. Taylor Guess is right behind her at 7-rebounds per game.

Crittenden County is shooting 40.4-percent from the field for the season, and 33.3-percent from behind the 3-point line. The Lady Rockets are knocking down 63.3-percent of the free throws.

Madisonville is averaging 61.5 points per game, while giving up only 35.5 ppg. The Lady Rockets are scoring 50 points per contest, while giving up 47.2 points a game.

The two teams last met in the regional tournament in 2016, with Madisonville picking up the 65-30 win.

Crittenden County last won a 2nd Region championship in 2011. Madisonville last reached the girls’ title game in 2010. The last time the Lady Maroons won the title was in 1983.
