PREVIEW – Webster County vs Christian County (Girls 2nd Region Tournament)

The second game of the Girls’ 2nd Region tournament Monday night will feature two teams that met for the title just two years ago. The Webster County Lady Trojans, champions out of the 6th District, will take on the Christian County Lady Colonels, the runners-up from the 8th District.

The Lady Trojans come into the tournament on a big momentum roll after knocking off Henderson County in the 6th District championship game, after losing to the Lady Colonels twice during the regular season. Webster County comes in at 16-10 on the season. However, the Lady Trojans have won 12 of their last 14 games, with the only losses coming to Henderson County.

Webster County is led by sharp shooter Marissa Austin, who comes into the tournament averaging 22.5 points per game. Raigan Price, who missed half of the Lady Trojans games this season, is now back and averaging 11.5 points per game, including 15 points in the win over Henderson County. Adeline McDyer averages 8 points per game for Webster County.

Raigan Price, since her return, is leading the Lady Trojans in rebounding at 7.9 boards per game. Adeline McDyer is next at 5.6 rebounds per contest.

Webster County is shooting 40.9-percent from the field this season, and 34.6 from behind the 3-point line. The Lady Trojans are among the best at the free throw line in the region, hitting 67-percent. Webster County averages 26.5 rebounds a game.

Christian County enters the contest with a record of 12-17 for the season. The Lady Colonels are coming off a tough two point loss to Hopkinsville in the 8th District championship game.

Christian County, who lost Trinity McGee to a knee injury earlier in the season, is led by Eniya McGee at 9.6 points per game. Peri Brown, Destinee Catlett-Watkins, and Reni Shemwell, all average right at 7 points per game. Mikayah Killebrew averages six points per game for the Lady Colonels.

Reni Shemwell and Eniya McGee are both averaging just over 5 rebounds per game for Christian County.

Christian County has seen its share of struggles from the field this season. The Lady Colonels come into the game shooting 35.8 percent from the field, and just 22-percent from behind the 3-point line. At the line, Christian County shoots 48.1-percent.

Webster County is averaging 55.6 points per game, while the Lady Trojans give up 49 points per contest. Christan County comes into the tournament averaging 48.4 points a game, while giving up 49.9 points.

The two teams last met in the regional tournament in 2019, with the Lady Trojans rolling to a 57-36 win in the semifinals.

Webster County last won a 2nd Region championship in 2018. The last time the Lady Colonels won the title was in 2004.

The two teams met February 18, with Webster County pulling out to a 69-53 win.
