The Webster County Trojans are headed back to the regional championship game for the first time since the 2015 season. The Trojans made all the key plays at big moments as they ended Lyon County’s season 79-67 Monday night in the Boys 2nd Region semifinals. The last time the Trojans reached the championship game was in 2015 when they lost to Hopkinsville in the title game. Webster County has never won a Boys 2nd Region title.

The evening got off to a bit of a bumpy start for the Lyon. Webster County, behind the high energy play of Tyler Camplin, hit Lyon County with a 7-0 run to open the game. The lead would grow to as many as ten points at 17-7. The Lyons finished the quarter with an 8-0 run to trim the Trojan lead to 17-15 going into the second quarter.

Webster County continued to control the flow of the game in the second quarter. Leading 24-21 midway through the quarter, the Trojans scored five in a row to push the lead out to 29-21. Tyler Camplin had a big half for the Trojans with 11 points and 4 rebounds. Destin Allen was a force inside for Webster, pulling down 8 rebounds in the half.

Travis Perry and Gunnar Bingham did most of the damage in the opening half for the Lyons, combining to score 19 of the Lyons’ 27 points.

Not that intensity was lacking in the opening half, but it got jacked up coming out for the start of the second half. Both teams picked up the offensive pace and the defense tightened up on both ends of the floor. With Webster County leading 45-38, the Lyons went on an 8-1 run to tie the game for the first time at 46-46. Moments later, Lyon County would knock down a three to take their first lead of the game at 49-47.

Webster County got the final 3 points of the quarter to reclaim a 50-49 lead going into the fourth.

Lyon County would get the game tied just once in the final quarter, that coming at 52-52 early in the quarter. Webster County would inch its way out to a 64-60 lead midway through the final quarter. The Trojans then used a 8-2 blitz to move out to their first double digit lead of the night at 72-62, and effectively end the Lyons’ hopes of playing in the title game for the first time in 29 seasons.

From their the Trojans cruised on out to the final 12 point margin.

Webster County got big nights from both Tyler Camplin and Destin Allen. Camplin finished with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Allen added 21 points and 13 rebounds. Hunter McNaughton chipped in with 16 points. Ayden Winn also hit double figures with 10 points and 5 rebounds.
