Caldwell Tennis Teams Open With Wins Over St. Mary

The Caldwell County tennis teams had to wait an extra day to start the season, but the Tigers and Lady Tigers each claimed wins.

After being postponed by the weather on Monday, Caldwell hosted Paducah St. Mary on Tuesday at the CCHS tennis courts in Princeton.

Caldwell’s boys rolled to an 8-1 victory while Caldwell’s girls captured a narrow 4-3 triumph.

In the guys’ match, the Tigers took five of the six singles matches with the Vikings.

Shelton Cansler fell to Rex Roof 7-5, 6-2;

Jordan Hammett defeated Issac Labarge 8-4;

Ryan Hammett defeated Vasav Rachan 8-5;

Billy Wallace defeated John Curtsinger 9-7;

Bryce Thompson defeated Sabil Rachan 8-3;

Nick Adams defeated Gabe Russell 8-1.

The Tigers took all three doubles matches.

Cansler/Jordan Hammett defeated Roof/Curtsinger 6-2, 6-0;

Ryan Hammett/Wallace defeated Vasan Rachan/Labarge 8-1;

Thompson/Riley Johnson defeated Sabil Rachan/Russell 8-2.

In the girls’ match, Caldwell took both doubles matches, but saw St. Mary come back to win three of the five singles matches.

In doubles:

Belle Englebright/Maddie Morgan defeated T. Smith/Maya Smith 6-0, 6-1;

Josie Shaffer/Rachel McClung defeated Milleah Smith/A. Campbell 8-2.

In girls singles:

Englebright defeated Megan Lorch 6-1, 6-0;

Morgan defeated Chiara Doran 8-0;

Shaffer lost to Hailey Froelich 8-6;

McClung fell to Milleah Smith 6-3;

Emma Peake was defeated by Maya Smith 8-0.

Caldwell’s tennis teams visit Christian County on Thursday.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers play at home again on Monday against Lyon County.
