Lyon County freshman Cathryn Brown has been named to the Tom Leach All-Resilient Team.

The All-Resilient Team honors student-athletes from Kentucky high schools who have had to overcome some form of adversity to compete and often excel in sports, within the previous calendar year.  They will be recognized by the University of Kentucky broadcaster at a banquet with the date to be announced later.

At the start of her freshman year, Cathryn found out that her older brother Cullen was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.  Cullen was a sophomore at the University of Kentucky and was named to the All-SEC freshman team.  Just months before, Cathryn watched her brother play in his first PGA Tour event and even caddied for him in a pro-am.

Cullen’s chemotherapy usually required one of her parents to accompany him and another to follow her progress on the golf course.

In the shadow of uncertainty about her brother’s health, Brown finished eighth at the Region I Golf Tournament and qualified for her first state tournament.  At the state tourney, Brown made the first day cut and finished in 12th place.

In addition to being named All-Region in golf, she was named All-District in basketball after averaging 10 points a game for the Lady Lyons.

Others named to the All-Resilient Team included Mayfield’s Kade Neely, Muhlenberg County’s Hayden Perkins, and Logan County’s Kaylin Page.
