MacMurray’s Closure Affects Local Football Players

The closure of MacMurray College will affect at least two local athletes who had made plans to play football for the Jacksonville, Ill. school.

The college’s board announced Friday they were closing the school at the end of the spring semester after deciding they had no viable financial path for the future, citing declining enrollment and rising costs.

According to insidehighered.com, the coronavirus and economic downturn did not play a role in the closure of the 174-year-old liberal arts college.

Todd County Central senior Jonathan Flores signed a letter to play at the college earlier this month.  Trigg County senior Trevor Lewis committed to play at MacMurray earlier this month but announced on social media Saturday he was opening his enrollment.
