The four teams are set for the girls’ portion of the 2020 West Kentucky Hoops Classic, which will be played at Caldwell County’s CAB gym this year on Dec. 28 and 29.

Joining the host Caldwell County Lady Tigers will be Mayfield, which went 2-0 in last year’s event. The Lady Cardinals beat Webster County 51-41 and defeated Caldwell County 58-51.

The Lady Tigers were 17-16 this past season while Mayfield went 19-12.

Meanwhile, the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons and the Lyon County Lady Lyons will play in the West Kentucky Hoops Classic for the first time.

Madisonville was 29-2 this past season, reaching the 2nd Region championship game before falling to Henderson County. Lyon County was 13-17 in the 2019-20 season.

“This years lineup for the WKHC is a strong one, having local teams involved,” noted Caldwell head coach Chuck Mitchell, who just finished his first season on the Lady Tiger bench.

“Madisonville-North Hopkins will again be strong this season, but losing the twins will definitely be two big gaps to fill. Mayfield is going to be young but brings a good shooting team back. Lyon County will be very strong even though they lose five seniors.

“We are excited to have the chance to play Mayfield and Lyon County,” Mitchell added. “We lose three strong seniors but are very excited about the group coming back The finale on the 28th will be with Lyon County. Going to be a great two days of basketball.”

Mitchell thinks his Caldwell team will be solid next season.

“I’m very excited about my team coming back. Five seniors in Karsyn (Parker), Jacey (Jaggers), Morgan (McDaniels), Majah (Hollowell) and Tamia (Walker).

“Karsyn Parker, look for her to not only rebound but score more. Majah Hollowell got some great experience this year running the point. Jaggers is recovering nicely from ACL surgery and without a doubt will be back better than ever. Morgan has really improved her outside shooting, which we will really depend upon. Tamia brings so much energy along with her great defense.

“Jillian Choate is also getting stronger after her ACL injury. Parris Gray and Emilee Campbell will be big for us. Presley McKinney is also someone we will have to rely on this year. We have a plethora of young kids I’m excited about.”

The West Kentucky Hoops Classic also includes several top boys’ teams from nearby states – coming together for 14 games over two days in Princeton – along with the host school, Caldwell County.
