My Personal Top 10 YSE Moments – Tom (w/VIDEO)

Okay, so I have had some time over the past four weeks and looked back at some of the things we have done in our first three years at YourSportsEdge.Com. We have seen some really neat things and met some really spectacular young athletes from across the area.

Then I thought about some of the top things I have gotten to see, in person, that would make my very own Top 10 list. Note, these are the ones that I have covered, and do not include any from the other guys and gals who are a part of YSE.

So, here we go:

1 – KyKy Tandy’s dunk at Hopkinsville where he cut his chin on the rim – That’s really all that needs to be said on this. He cut his CHIN on the RIM on a dunk. If you were there that night, you know just what I am talking about.

2 – KyKy Tandy’s 2nd quarter in the 2019 regional semifinals against Caldwell County (VIDEO BELOW) – I honestly do not know if I have ever seen an individual player have a better quarter than KyKy did that night. It was one of those performances that people will say “I was there.” Left people throughout the gym just shaking their heads.

3 – Tyler Shemwell’s walkoff 9th inning home run in the 2018 2nd Region championship game (VIDEO BELOW) – The stakes were so high in this game, and the pressure continued to build as the game went into extra innings. It was a real shame that someone had to lose. Shemwell’s blast and then the reaction of Johnny Blane, shorts flapping in the breeze, make it an epic moment.

4 – UHA taking down Lexington Christian in the 2019 All A state championship game (VIDEO BELOW) – The Blazers were on a mission that trip to Richmond from the time they arrived. Winning the title game and the celebration afterwards were a great weekend, even if I did irreparably damage my van in an accident on the Bluegrass Parkway on the way up.

5 – Hopkinsville Boys Soccer knocking out Louisville Butler in 2018 on penalty kicks in the Elite 8 (VIDEO BELOW) – The intensity was there the whole match, with a berth in the state semifinals on the line. And to add to it, Xavier Bussell’s reaction on the final penalty kick as he realized the ball was still spinning back in front of the goal he was defending.

6 – Lyon County Lady Lyons upending Webster County in the 2019 softball regional semifinals – A young Lady Lyons team figured to be a year or two away. However, this team found a way to contain Webster County’s offense, and scratched through with just enough offense to win and advance to the 2019 regional title game.

7- John Calipari in the house for the 2018 boys regional final between UHA and Christian County – The game was a hard fought intense battle between the two 8th District schools. And, to top if off, Cal walks in Henderson County’s gym to get a chance to scout KyKy Tandy in person.

8 – Fort Campbell’s Conner Brinkmeyer rushes for a 98 yard score against Mayfield – The 2019 football season did no have many big moments for the Fort Campbell Falcons. Backed up at their own 2-yard line in the opening round playoff game, the Falcons gave the ball to Brinkmeyer, who went around the right side and took it all the way to the house. This one, I actually got to do the call on for WHVO.

9 – UHA’s Taquan Hollowell beats Male at the buzzer at the King of the Bluegrass – The final 30 seconds of this hard fought consolation bracket game were frenetic. Then you get the finish, where Hollowell snags the miss from K.J. Crump and puts it in just ahead to give the Blazers the win over former Hoptown coach Tim Hayworth in one of the state’s premiere tournaments.

10 – Gabe Board from beyond half court – The Lyon County Lyons appeared to have lost the game to St. Mary’s in regulation. The Vikings had just pushed out to a 3-point lead in the final seconds, when Gabe Board buried one from behind the 3-point line to force overtime.

Again, these are not the YSE Top 10 Moments since we launched, just the ones I have personnally been fortunate enough to see.
