Madisonville-North Hopkins guard KeShawn Stone will play college basketball at Campbellsville University.

Stone, a guard, committed to the Tigers Tuesday on social media.

“First off, I would like to thank God for allowing me to be in the position that I am and for every blessing that has fallen upon me. Second, I would like to thank my parents for pushing and encouraging me through the years and for the support on and off the court. Next, thank you MNHHS coaching staff for believing in me since my freshman year and creating a bond that cannot be broken. As well as my AAU coaches for giving me the chance to represent their team,” Stone wrote.

“To my teammates, I thank each of you for making me better in every aspect and showing what a true brotherhood is. Last but not least, to Maroon Nation, I thank you for all of the support and engery you gave at every game.

“With that being said, the wait is over …. I will be furthering my education and athletic career at Campbellsville University! #GoTigers #Maroon4L”

Stone and the Maroons had a storybook season — albeit one with a premature ending.

Madisonville went 31-3 this year with two of those losses coming on last-second shots in overtime.

The Maroons were scheduled to take a 20-game winning streak to the state tournament at Rupp Arena in Lexington before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the Sweet 16.

Stone averaged 7.8 points a game and shot over 80 percent at the free throw line this season for the Maroons. He also added 2.8 rebounds a contest.

Stone and Madisonville won the 2nd Region championship for the second straight year, defeating Webster County 73-58 in the championship game last month.

Campbellsville, an NAIA school, went 18-13 last season but fell to Shawnee State (Ohio) in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament.

Stone is the third Maroon to announce plans to play college basketball. Earlier, Kenny White signed with Tennessee Tech while Ksuan Casey signed with Tennessee Martin.
