Caldwell County’s girls couldn’t get together for a basketball awards night because of COVID-19 restrictions, so Lady Tiger head coach Chuck Mitchell took the awards to each player.

The Lady Tiger coaching staff made a stop for each varsity player on Tuesday, creating a small parade around Princeton and out to the northern reaches of the county to get to every player.

Mitchell said Caldwell boys coach Daniel Kukahiko came up with the idea of taking the team’s awards night ceremony on the road.

Senior Bella McConnell received the team’s Most Valuable Player Award, Miss Offense Award and Most Rebounds Award. Fellow senior Jada Boyd earned the award for Most Steals, despite missing a big chunk of the season with a knee injury. The team’s other senior, Lucy Goffinet, received the Leadership Award. Senior Awards were also presented to each of the three seniors.

Other award winners included Jacey Jaggers, Lady Tiger Award, Most 3-Pointers Made, Best Free Throw Percentage; Karsyn Parker, Miss Defense, Most Deflections; Majah Hollowell, Best Field Goal Percentage, Assist Leader; Tamia Walker, Hustle Award; Morgan McDaniels, Most Improved; Katy Smiley, Newcomer Award; Parris Gray, JV MVP, JV Offense Award; Emilee Campbell, JV Defense Award; and Presley McKinney, Freshman MVP.

Mitchell guided the squad to a 16-15 record, despite an injury-plagued season, in his first year at Caldwell County.
