Jiles Wyatt is tied for second place after the first of two rounds at the Bluegrass Golf Tour Saturday at Drake Creek Golf Club in Ledbetter.

The University Heights Academy senior shot a 5-over 77 and is a three-way tie with Daviess County’s Nick Johnson and Webster County’s Grant Puckett.  Warren Thomis, who plays at Madison Central High School, leads with a 2-over 74.

Trey Wall of Benton is fifth at +7, followed by Paducah’s Jack Butts at +14, and Benton’s Preston Futrell at +15.

The second and final round continues Sunday.

The tournament is one of the few sports events to be held since sports were essentially shut down by the state in March.  Because of its ability to social distance properly, golf courses have remained open throughout the state allowing golfing to continue.  The youth sports guidelines handed down by the state Friday do not apply to events such as the Bluegrass Golf Tour because “youth golf” has been interpreted by the KHSAA to mean sports below the middle school level.  The Bluegrass Tour’s age division are for middle schoolers and up.

The Bluegrass Tour and Drake Creek both took the proper social distancing precautions, including having the golfers stand six feet apart when they turned in their scorecards to tournament officials.
