To not overuse the biggest cliche of 2020, but the spring was a time of uncertainty for Christian County’s Hannah Sumner. She signed to play golf at Lindsey Wilson college early in the year ahead of her senior season on the softball diamond.  Instead of playing in the region softball tournament this week for the Lady Colonels, she was back on the golf course Tuesday at the Bluegrass Golf Tour stop at the Bowling Green Country Club.

The cancellation of the high school spring season allowed Sumner to begin working on her game a month ahead of schedule.  She opened her summer play by tying for 10th place Tuesday with a 18-hole score of 92 [+20].

Sumner parred three of her first four holes but struggled to close out the nine holes that began with double-bogeys on hole No. 5 and 6. She again had three straight pars on the back nine and chipped in for birdie on No. 16.

Apollo’s Macey Brown, last year’s Region 2 runner-up, won the division with a 4-over 76.

Sumner’s extra month of work should allow her to fine tune her game ahead of leaving for Columbia and the Lady Raiders in the fall.
