Marshall County’s Jay Nimmo overcame a tough first day to finish tied for 16th at the Dye Junior Golf Invitational in Carmel, Indiana. Nimmo was +14 over the three rounds and finished 14 shots behind the winner, John Marshall Butler, who graduated from Louisville Trinity this month and will attend Auburn in the fall.
Nimmo, who won the KHSAA state golf title last fall as a junior, shot a 9-over 81 on the tourney’s first day Monday and stood tied for 28th place. He bounced back Tuesday with a second round 73 that was tied for the fourth best round. He had three birdies and four bogeys in the round to move into a tie for 19th place.
In Wednesday’s third round, Nimmo shot a 4-over 76 to finish tied for 16th place.
The event was played at Crooked Stick Golf Club outside of Indianapolis where John Daly won the 1991 PGA Championship. Daly’s son, John II, finished tied for second at the invitation-only event that features 33 of the top junior golfers in the nation.
