College basketball really wasn’t on Cole Smiley’s radar until after his senior season at Caldwell County.
The 6-foot-4 Smiley averaged 7.9 points a game and led the Tigers with 6.3 rebounds a contest this past season as Caldwell forged a 16-16 record.
But the coronavirus led to some colleges reaching out to find prospective recruits, and some opportunities opened up for Smiley.
He chose Lindsey Wilson College over offers from Brescia and Union College. He also considered Midway and Campbellsville-Harrodsburg.
Smiley and his family held a signing ceremony Friday afternoon. In the era of social distancing, the ceremony was held outside of Caldwell County High School.
Lindsey Wilson is an NAIA school in Columbia, Ky., which competes in the Mid-South Conference.
The Blue Raiders went 17-14 last season on the varsity level. The school also has a junior varsity program.
