Former Caldwell County great Mike Gray returned home to find his newest point guard.

Gray, now the women’s basketball head coach at Brescia University in Owensboro, has signed the Lady Tigers’ Jada Boyd as the latest Bearcat.

Gray starred for the Tigers from 1983-88 and was Caldwell’s all-time leading scorer when he graduated with 2,406 points. Gray is still third on the Tigers’ all-time scoring list.

Meanwhile, Boyd finished her time at Caldwell with 820 career points. That’s 31st on the Lady Tigers’ career list.

Boyd had a shot at climbing that chart even higher and maybe even reaching 1,000 before a knee injury halfway through her senior season forced her off the court.

She did make a brief return to the starting lineup for Caldwell’s Senior Night. With the help of Livingston Central’s coaches and players, Boyd was on the floor for the opening tip and even scored the first basket of the night.

The Lady Cardinals allowed Caldwell to win the opening tip so it could get the ball to Boyd for an uncontested basket.

However, in the excitement, Boyd missed the shot. But Livingston’s Kerah Davidson grabbed the rebound and gave the ball back to Boyd, who made good on her second attempt.

The game was then stopped so that Boyd could be removed from the lineup, bringing an end to her playing days with the Lady Tigers.

Boyd, who also played for the Louisville Legends AAU team for two seasons, averaged just under 10 points a game as a senior at Caldwell.

But Boyd, who is now healthy, will play on in college for Gray and the Bearcats.
Brescia is an NAIA institution that competes in the River States Conference. The Bearcats went 10-21 last season.

Gray was in Princeton on Friday for a signing ceremony for Boyd and her family outside Caldwell County High School.

Boyd will be the second Lady Tiger to play for Gray, who enters his fifth season at the Owensboro school. Lele Rodgers, another guard, wrapped up her college career in 2019. Rodgers is second on Caldwell’s all-time scoring list with 1,682 points as a Lady Tiger.
