Preston Chaudoin, a rising junior at Hopkinsville High School, pitched a gem on Friday for the Evansville Razorbacks’ 16U team.

Chaudoin allowed just one run on three base hits and struck out 11 to help the Razorbacks defeat the Missouri Gators 5-1 in a game in St. Louis.

The win improved the Razorbacks to 3-0, but the Evansville travel squad would suffer its first loss on Saturday 5-3 to GBA DePew 15U in O’Fallon, Mo., in the championship game of the tournament.

Chaudoin, a right-hander, needed just 96 pitches in his complete-game effort in the seven-inning contest. In his first mound action since last fall, Chaudoin walked two while allowing just the one earned run.

Chaudoin also had one of the Razorbacks’ six base hits in Friday’s win. Evansville scored four times in the top of the seventh to break a 1-1 tie.
