Some schools in Kentucky may be looking to fill holes in their schedules if some fall sports start on time. In wake of this week’s announcement that the State of Emergency Order in Tennessee would remain in place through at least August 29th, the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association has informed member schools that sports that involve “close contact” will not be able to have competition, actual or scrimmages, while the order remains in place.

According to a statement from the TSSAA, “member schools cannot have any competition or scrimmage with other schools and cannot have close contact activities during their fundamental practice in the sports of football, 7-on-7 football, girls soccer, wrestling, and basketball.”

The statement goes on to say that “based on the extension of the Governor’s order, football and girls’ soccer cannot begin their seasons as originally scheduled.”

Officials add that they are “in the process of developing regular season and postseason options to present to the TSSAA Board of Control for their consideration. The Board will ultimately make the decision as to how this will impact the postseason and if any adjustments can be made to regular-season competition.”

Several Kentucky schools have Tennessee schools on their schedules early in the season, which leaves some gaps in scheduling, should the fall season in those sports start on time in the Commonwealth.

Games involving Kentucky schools that will be affected on Aug. 21 include:
Kenwood, TN at Hopkinsville
Portland, TN at Warren East
Fulton County at Gleason, TN
Mayfield at Lausanne, TN

Games affected on Aug. 28 include:
South Fulton, TN at Fulton County
