Hole No. 1 at Boots Randolph Golf Course is part of a greens replacement project expected to be finished by August 7.

Work to replace the greens at Boots Randolph Golf Course at Lake Barkley State Park should be complete in the first week of August.

The $130,000 project was planned before the COVID-19 pandemic hit and caused Lake Barkley to close in the spring.

Gil Lawson with the Kentucky State Parks said the old bentgrass greens were removed and replanted with Tifeagle Bermudagrass. He said Golf Course Superintendent John Bloecher is overseeing the process of growing the new greens that will feature new collars on the edge and new sprinklers to help with more precise control of irrigating the greens.

Westerfield Construction of Hopkinsville is completing the work under the direction of Tifton Turf of Georgia.

The 18-hole golf course at Lake Barkley State Park opened in 1972 and was named after the famed musician who grew up in Trigg County. The greens were replaced in 1992 as part of the $420,000 renovation project for the entire facility.
