Rook Ellington drove in 3 runs and the American team erupted over the final three frames to take a 12-3 victory over the National side in a Summer Series meeting in the Kentucky Prospects Collegiate Baseball League on Thursday night in Paducah.  The National side was done in by 7 errors, narrowing their series edge to 4-3.

Jacob Pennington and Jonah Brannon gave the National side a 2-0 lead with back-to-back RBI singles in the top of the third, but the American team cut the margin in half when Will Thompson reached on an error to allow a run to score in the bottom of the inning.

Logan Verble doubled-in a run to restore the National squad’s 2-run advantage in the top of the fourth, but the National bats would go quiet over the second half of the game.  The American comeback began with a 2-run double by Blake Schmitt to tie the game up in the bottom of the sixth, before Noah Brown delivered an RBI single to give the American side its first lead.

A run scored on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Ellington stretched the American lead to 3 and the National side had no answer.  The American squad plated 6 in the bottom of the eighth for the final margin, with Thompson and Ellington driving in runs.

CJ Johnson worked two innings on the mound for the win, allowing a hit with a couple of strikeouts and two walks.  Starter Corbin Guthman yielded 2 earned runs on four hits over three frames, walking three.  Ty Ramey allowed an earned run on a hit with a walk in one inning of work.  Ellington’s 3 RBI led the way, with Schmitt and Brown both driving in a couple.

Coy Burns had three hits for the American side, with Brady Betts taking the loss on the mound.  Betts surrendered 3 earned runs on three hits with a trio of strikeouts and 2 bases on balls.  Starter Jackson Fitzgerald pitched well through four, allowing only an unearned run on a hit with a walk.
