After a tough day on Friday, Emma Talley played much better on Saturday.

However, the former Caldwell County High School and University of Alabama missed the cut by one shot at the LPGA Drive On Championship at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

Talley struggled to an 8-over-par 80 in the first round. But she came back with a 1-under 71 despite difficult course conditions in the second round.

Talley had just one bogey on Saturday and recorded birdies on Nos. 8 and 18. But her bogey on the par-4 17th hole ultimately kept her from playing in Sunday’s final round.

Talley hit 14 of 15 fairways in the second round and cut her putts from 41 on Friday to 30 on Saturday.

Danielle Kang, Celine Boutier and Jodi Ewart Shadoff are tied atop the leaderboard at 5-under 139.

The Drive On Championship is the LPGA Tour’s first event since the Women’s Australian Open on Feb. 16.

Inverness is hosting the one-time event, with the LPGA staying in northeast Ohio next week for the Marathon Classic presented by Dana before heading to Scotland the following week.

The Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open is Aug. 13-16 in North Berwick, Scotland. It will be followed by the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Troon Golf Club in Troon, Scotland Aug. 20-23.

Talley has qualified for the Ladies Scottish Open but is still looking to earn a spot in the AIG Women’s Open.
